A week of work & girly time in Asheville

This past week has been full of fun girly-time, balloons, baking, tons of website work, and more wonderful food than my butt wants to think about. I had so much fun hanging with Amanda, Kippy, and the rest of the Bake It Pretty crew while we worked on the new website, getting it ready for a big relaunch. It definitely wasn’t all work, we took a lot of breaks to watch bad TV, go see really bad movies, visit the Biltmore estate, and oh, did I mention eat? The homemade pickles and Scotch eggs were a particular highlight. And we made whoopie pies. Check out these amazing three-foot wide balloons that Bake It Pretty is carrying in the shop! We needed to show em off,...

Babies and showers!

Ladies, gird your loins and ovaries, there are cute kid pictures ahead! Saturday I joined a bunch of awesome girls at my friend Casey’s house to celebrate our friend Laurel getting knocked up for the second time. Yayyyy! It’s a girl! Look at that crafty banner! I love the name she’s chosen for her baby girl (Kingsley). It was a fun, low key baby shower. We ate some food, played some games, and Laurel opened all her gifts. I won the game where you get to steal people’s clothespins if they say “baby”. It was kind of a no-contest win since I was the only one there without kids. Ha. Check out these adorable favors – little baby...

Congrats Cassie and Bobby

Sunday I went to the most highly-attended baby shower ever, Cassie and Bobby’s. The food was great, the guests all got along and were entertaining. I saw some people I hadn’t caught up with in a while, which was nice. I really had a great time and sort of forgot I was at a baby shower. This is a good thing. I had really been looking forward to making Cassie something as a gift (I hate buying off registries but not everyone appreciates a goofy handmade item) since she is one of my crafty friends. Tasha sent me the link to this adorable bird mobile and I knew it would just be PERFECT for her nursery. I had it almost completely finished when I saw her...

Road trip!

Roxy the world famous Doxie! I love this little dog, she is such a snuggle bug. Genevieve and I had a totally awesome girly weekend! First we ventured out on the metro and went to the Adams-Morgan area of DC to hit up Meskerem, which is an awesome Ethiopian restaurant. The metro was having all kinds of issues and delays and we had to walk pretty far in the cold, but we finally made it! It was like a little exploring adventure. We killed some sambosas, mango drinks and had a big vegetarian platter. It was so good! I’ve cooked Ethiopian food at my own house before but never had it in a restaurant. I am happy to say that the dishes I’ve made tasted really...

Happy New Year!

Yum yum yum. We have here some of the delicious food Mary and I whipped up for a little New Years Day vegan brunch we threw yesterday. Homemade granola, black eyed pea salsa, tons of fruit, muffins, scones, oh my! Altogether around 20 people showed up including some very cute kids. I think Max was showing everyone his belly covered in (temporary of course) tattoos right here. It was a gorgeous day and we were able to leave the windows open and let a breeze blow through. I think everyone had a good time and we got rave reviews on the food! Pumpkin cranberry scones. I made these, they turned out good although I’m not a big scone fan. Recipe is from...
