Dutch Canyon Socks

Modifications: None at all!

Final Verdict: Love these socks. I have knitted this pattern twice now, once for my mom and these are for me. It knits up surprisingly fast for a cable pattern. I think Socks that Rock is officially my favorite sock yarn to knit with and to wear. So smooshy and the colorways can’t be beat.

Hi, there! I really hope this doesn't come off as critical or judgemental - I love your blog and would hate to be one of "those" vegans - but I must say that I was surprised to see a wool yarn promoted on your site mere days after your veganiversary post.

It's understandable - a lot of people just don't realize how cruel the [mass-produced] wool industry can be - but I thought that I'd point out that there are some really wonderful vegan sock yarns available, as well. (Crystal Palace, for example, makes a lovely Cotton/Bamboo blend.)

Regardless, congratulations on your one-year!

Thanks Rachel,
I actually have a lot of animal fiber in my stash that I bought pre-vegan. I made the decision to go ahead and knit it up rather than getting rid of it. Same with leather I owned pre-vegan, I will wear it until it wears out, then replace with an alternative. Since going vegan I have not added yarn to my stash unless it's vegan or unless I can confirm that it came from non-factory farming, humane sources (like an animal sanctuary). But thanks for your interest anyway!

Is it harder to knit 2 socks at once instead of one? I LOVE making socks, haven't tried the 2 at a time method yet (not really sure how that works) Those look awesome!! You are my knitting and vegan hero! ;-)

After reading your blog it reawakened my desire to knit and when having a conversation with a member of Etsylabs @ etsy.com they suggested that I go to youtube to view some videos of casting on, well let me tell you I eventually did and I learned with Mrs. Mokowitz, I am not sure if I am spelling her name right but I learned to cast on and knit in just 1 hour, I just kept watching the video over and over again, I want to make socks but I don't want to use those double pointed needles.

What kind of needles are you using? Maybe I can learn the way you are knitting. Anyway I love your blog and congrats on your proposal and you future wedding!

I like knitting two socks at a time on one big circular needle (it's not that hard once you get used to it!). I suggest going here for help on how to get started:
