Pantry organization!

My brother gave me a $75 gift certificate to the Container Store for xmas. Here’s what I bought! This totaled a bit more than $75 but I feel was really worth it. There are three sizes of container here, the two large 8x8x4 ones on the bottom, four 8x4x4 long ones stacked on top, and eight 4x4x4 smaller containers. So I actually have more room behind each of the small ones. I am amazed at how much room this gave me! I wish I’d bought a few more for the bagged stuff on the left, but they don’t fit well in that cabinet. I’m thinking I might move some of that into one of my cabinets with doors and put dishes or something pretty there since those bags are on display (that cabinet doesn’t have a door).

The dismal BEFORE picture:

Now I just have to figure out what to do with the last pantry cabinet below that one. It has dog stuff, potatoes, onions, and more baking stuff.

Are you going to label them somehow? Or just go by sight?

I had a hard time labeling my spice jars, so I'm interested to see what you might come up with.

Just go by sight because the contents will change.

Amber, that looks so nice! I wish my pantry came anywhere close...

That's amazing! I love it.

And is that Hello Kitty Yan Yan I spy?

Well is that ever inspiring. I'm organizing like crazy too. What a great gift and one you'll enjoy all year!

Job well done.

If you got a wire shelf with legs for that space with the most containers, you could put the smaller containers on top, and not have to drag them all off whenever you wanted to use the flour.

...though now I see that you may not have the horizontal room to do that.

Oh, organization. It makes me happy in the pants.

I love organized kitchens! I agree with you about changing out pretty stuff into the open cabinet. How about moving *all* of the food stuff to a cabinet with a door and putting glasses and dishes, or useless knick-knacks, in the open one? I looked at the before/after pics of painting the kitchen to remind myself what the whole room looked like ... where's your frig? Would putting glasses in the open cabinet be convenient to it?

Yeah the fridge is actually to the right of the now-organized cabinet on the right. So it would be convenient. Except I only have two nice looking glasses so I'll hold off til I get more. They are so nice but easily breakable. I used to have 8 haha.

I have a cabinet as a pantry as well, and I face the same problem. Your pantry looks awesome, totally Martha Sterwart style! (I hope you take that as a compliment)

The only solution I can find, is ripping out the existing cabinets and totally remodeling my kitchen... your way may be cheaper ; )

You have like...no food.
I'm impressed.

I buy stupid shit and never eat it so I have a pantry full of crap.

Can you come to my house?

Posted by: DeAndrea on 05 January, 2007

Wow. You must be a real honest to goodness bona fide cook. I mean, I've seen dried lentils and beans in the store so I figured somebody must know what they are for ... but I've never actually seen them in somebody's house. Color me impressed.

Yan Yans! :D Mmmm. I haven't had yan yan's in a long time. Yummy! I really like those bins. It looks all nifty and organized. :)

Wow! Even your "before" picture looks better than my pantry.

Posted by: Kristin on 05 January, 2007

Holy crap. Organization porn! Organizatiorn!! It's like, my dream kitchen.

Posted by: Kells on 05 January, 2007

If you don't like the open-ness, you could hang a curtain on a rod so it slides easily.

Good Lord, woman...you even organize with flair! I'm jealous of you always...you're an inspiration!

Posted by: Marilyn on 08 January, 2007

Wow woman!!!! You need to come to my house and organize my kitchen and my closets....
