05 September, 2006
Hey kids, it’s September already.

I really believe there’s not much in this world that can give you a self-esteem boost like wearing quality clothing that FITS you. Remember my big shopping list for Fall/Winter? I got a good chunk knocked out this weekend thanks to some perseverance, sweat and a girl named Genevieve. Oh yeah this is her. I mean us.

I wish she lived here, and not 3 hours away. I love hanging out with mah lady. And her lil’ Huffa the weenie dog.

I hope you didn’t think boston terriers were the only dogs that can give the serious STINK EYE. This little weenie hates wearing this shirt and is not afraid to show it. And later, on a walk:

“How am I supposed to plan world domination if I’m wearing this stupid shirt? Remove it immediately.”

So yeah, after a delicious lunch at Sunflower there was much shopping and trying on of a zillion items of clothing. We went to Tysons Corner mall which as you can imagine, was pure insanity since it was Labor Day. I am so glad I had Gen there with me, because she encouraged me to try on stuff I normally wouldn’t have picked out, but that ended up looking great on me. I also was very pleased to discover that I have gone down another size in pants and that I can now buy shirts at almost any store!

Yes, that’s right kids, I shopped at such places as NY&Co. and The Gap. This might sound really dumb to most people reading this site, but fellow fatties can sympathize with the pathetic lack of options for fashion. Now I can fit into a regular XL top and good lord, this is going to make things so much easier (and cheaper). I got some really good stuff including two pairs of trousers that look like they were made for me (expensive), a pair of Levi’s (on sale for $15!), a couple sweaters and boatneck tees (cheap) and some kimono-style tops. I’m really excited about what I got and I spent less than I was planning to. I still have a good deal of shopping to do, but I did get a substantial amount done.

We went into this really cool store called Cusp, which was above my price range, but I fell in love with their displays. One of the sales guys was looking at me weird and kind of following me around since I was taking pictures, but he didn’t say anything so I guess he got over it.

Is that not the coolest chair?

Yeah, those are some Manolo Blahniks in there. They had—wait for it—CAMO BLAHNIKS. They were exactly the shoe that Carrie had stolen from the baby shower, except in camo satin. Too great.

Gen says she’s gonna buy them for me for my birthday. They’re only $645. Chump change, right? Anyway afterwards I was totally exhausted and sweaty. Gen is a saint for waiting while I tried on 8,000 things. I have to say that I think it’s kind of sad (but also great) that someone I’ve only hung out with twice in real life has been a better friend to me lately than some of the people I’ve known for years. I love her.

P.S. I’m getting tattooed the first week in October. Stoked.

Dood! I've totally been to Sunflower! My girl L lives in Fairfax :) It sounds like you had a pretty awesome weekend of therapy. Girlfriends, shopping and veggie foodies are the best.

I didn't run it. I decided it was too soon. I plan on picking up training again after the boot camp class is over. I will definitely be doing it next year, but first I gotta train and run a 10K at least. Then I'll start training for the half.

But where are photos of all the CLOTHES?
;-)

Coming as soon as I can wrangle a photographer to shoot pictures of me wearing them. They look dumb just laying on the floor.

Tysons is crowded no matter what weekend it is! Sounds like an awesomely (yeah, I make up words) successful shopping trip and, more than that, a needed spirit lift! As for clothes pics ... one word: tripod.

The little switch on my camera is broken so I can take pictures, but can't change settings (including setting the self-timer).

Katie and I spent a lot of money at NY&co yesterday too.

Hey, I found you on AT, and have been stalking your posts via LJ for about a month now. A few comments:

1. Congrats on the weight loss.
2. Tell your friend her hoops through plugs is killer. ;)
3. Doesn't it suck that some of the best furniture designs will only fit in a retail/corporate environment, and wouldn't really fit in a residence, which means it's doomed to a temporary lifespan?

WOW! You are really changing. You look great! I agree, it really shows in the face.

Congrats on the shopping. It's an awesome feeling to be able to fit into those clothes that were off limits in the past.

Those displays were pretty cool.

Your a big inspiration. Thanks!

I totally get how big a deal it is to buy "normal" clothes is. That must have made you feel REALLY good!

And I don't know that its sad that you have a friend from online that means so much. I met my hubby online- and I have some online friends who care a WHOLE lot more about me than people who I feel SHOULD. I think its kind of a neat thing- that you get to meet and be friends with someone that you may not have otherwise known- and get to know them in ways that people involved in your "day to day life" have no idea, and a lot of times, no interest.

Great pic of you both! I bet it was a lot of fun :-)

We were in Vegas this weekend and in the Caesar's Palace shops there is a MAC store. I immediately thought of you and wanted to go in, but there we ran out of time. :(

Posted by: Genie on 05 September, 2006

where did you find kimono-style tops?????

Posted by: Laurah on 05 September, 2006

Laurah-
I got a jersey top in purple colors by Kenneth Cole (Nordstrom), and a kimono-sleeve style black sweater and a gray jersey top from NY&Co.

I told Gen that you guys looked cute together... then I realized that made it sound like y'all were dating. ;) But srsly, you two are the Eyebrow Princesses. Hot!

That chair is incredible, and yay for finding cheap tops that fit! It's a rare and beautiful thing.

*pops Amber's collar* Hot.

must be an invisible collar...

Posted by: Jimmy on 06 September, 2006

That's exactly what I was thinking.

I know just what you mean about moving into "regular store" clothes. That's my goal, nothing more. I just want to be able to go in any store and wear what they offer, and not be stuck buying all my clothes from a couple of stores. I had grown out of Old Navy even, but now I'm back in that, thank goodness. One more store to mix and match with!
