Summer Reading List

Today Alicia at Posie posted her spring/summer reading list, and I got really excited to do the same. I love going to the beach, and since most of the time we go to Chicks Beach where there are no waves (I don’t like to swim unless I got some waves to play in), I just lay in the sun and read.

Right now I’m finishing:
The Blind Assassin — Margaret Atwood
The Bonesetter’s Daughter — Amy Tan

In my queue to buy:
The Kite Runner — Khaled Hosseini
The Mermaid Chair — Sue Monk Kidd
Reading Lolita in Tehran: A Memoir in Books — Azar Nafizi
Prep — Curtis Sittenfeld
The Joy Luck Club — Amy Tan

Started these but didn’t finish, will finish this summer:
The Secret History — Donna Tartt
Appetites: Why Women Want — Caroline Knapp
Drinking: A Love Story — Caroline Knapp
I Know This Much Is True — Wally Lamb

So, what’s on your list this spring/summer?

Also, where do you read? I read on my lunchbreak, sometimes late at night on the couch if I’m out of Law & Order: SVU episodes to watch & knit by, I listen to audiobooks in the car and I also read at mom’s on Sundays sometimes.

Once upon a time I used to read on my luch break, and before going to sleep. But when you share a bed with someone, its sorta not nice to have a light on (plus I think reading too many good books was contributing to my insomnia). When Sam was little, I used to read while nursing him, and as he got older, sometimes while he was napping. Now I don't get a lot of reading time- usually in my private office, when I am taking a little personal time ;-), if you know what I mean. (probably TMI) Reading on the beach is great- I might get to do some of that this summer while Edwin and Sam play in the sand and water :-)

No problem. I don't think we've met before. I'm on Buzzgrinder a lot, and I've been to this site before at some point. I was in a few bands at some point, so maybe we crossed paths then? Not sure.

Reading this summer is a goal of mine. I have a couple books on my list right now.
1. Snow Falling on Cedars (not new, but I've been meaning to get to it)
2. The Known World

Okay, I must have more, but they're not coming to me at the moment! How horrible. But, to answer your question about where to read, I like reading on the beach, or while I'm eating my breakfast -- I'm not a big reader in bed before I go to sleep. I'd rather be sitting up, I guess!

I check your site every so often . . . lovely photos. Anyway, have you read Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close? It's by the same guy who did Everything is Illuminated, and I think you'd enjoy its structure (studded with photos, etc.) Have you ever read the short stories of lorrie moore or amy bloom? Come to Me or A Blind Man Can See How Much I Love You are both good (bloom), and I love Moore's Self-Help. I think you might like both of them.

The next book on my list is the biography of Hilary Clinton... looking forward to that, currently I am reading "the name of the rose" which is partly exciting, partly boring! I also am reading the "elements of style" which is great.
I wake up at 5:00 AM and go to work, have one hour lunch break and go home at 5:00 PM, I do some relaxation especially if CSI is playing, then I am committed to read at least half an hour each night no matter how tired I feel, so from 8 till 10, it must be my reading time.

I just wanted to let you know about this exciting new Book Group Expo that is taking place June17-18 in San Jose. Amy Tan and Khaled Hosseini will be there to name a few and it is being billed as a "spa day for your brain!" Based on your summer reading choices this sounds perfect for you!

There is more info at www.bookgroupexpo.com

I think this something that could be of great interest and fun!
