About Me

I’m Amber. I’m 26 years old and I live in Norfolk, Virginia. I’m a graphic & web designer. Right now I'm working as the webmaster for a Fortune 500 corporation in one of the tall buildings in downtown Norfolk. While I do that, I daydream of crafting full time. I help run the Norfolk Craft Mafia, a collective for indie artists and crafters in southeast Virginia.

In November 2005 I adopted a grumpy boston terrier, Kyla, from Old Dominion Boston Terrier Rescue. She is the love of my life, and a huge booger. Her feet smell like fritos. The other love of my life is a boy named Jimmy. We got engaged on Saturday, September 8, 2007! Read the story here.

Things I enjoy making and doing: knitting, sewing, photography working out, cooking my own food, baking and frosting cupcakes, booking punk & hardcore shows, fighting the patriarchy, being straight edge, enjoying MAC makeup, graffiti, making buttons, DIY projects around my house and taming my Boston terrier.

Other things I dig: ice cream, Japanese arts and crafts, geisha, tattoos (American traditional and Japanese), zines, roller skates, bicycles, tea (I don't drink coffee), popsicles, polka dots, vintage 1950s memorabilia and advertising, typography, kawaii, dinosaurs, sharks, anything from the coral reef, Boston terriers, Apple computers, Frida Kahlo, Maya Deren.

I graduated May 2005 from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia with a B.F.A in Graphic Design and a minor in Art History. I am forever indebted to my parents for paying for college up front, as I’m now free to start my adult life school-debt-free. It’s pretty awesome.

I’m straight edge. That means I don't drink, smoke or do drugs. At all, ever. I'm also (newly) vegan, which means I avoid consuming all animal products.

My family keeps me on track. We are a tight knit group and I love them fiercely.

I talk a lot about crafting, hardcore shows, my family, my fitness mishaps. Really, I just talk a lot.

This domain has been mine, and used for my stream of internetty consciousness since I was 16 years old [that’d be around 1998]. The name of the site? From one of my favorite songs, Alison by Elvis Costello [lyrics]. Background pattern thanks to Squidfingers.
