‘Tis the season

‘Tis the season

I have gotten so excited about Christmas decorations this year! I was really inspired by living up here near the mountains, seeing all the beautiful trees this fall, and just observing all the new nature around me. My parents came to visit for my mom’s birthday, and I wanted everything to be really festive and magical for them, so I got busy and pulled the house together early this year.

I made several fresh wreaths, swags, and such. I spraypainted branches with silver metallic paint for the dining room table centerpiece and adorned them with a couple berry sprigs. I refurbished two turned wooden candlesticks that I found at a yard sale for $6. I always forget to take a before picture, but trust me, they looked gross. I painted the bottoms gold for a dipped effect and varnished the wooden top. They look great now!

I am most excited about our mantle. I just really love how it came together.

I made a birthday cake for mom – German chocolate from scratch. The recipe came from Baking Illustrated. It was heavenly.

  3. Zomg! Beautifully done; I love, love, love it all, especially the fuzzy little owl in the wreath. (He reminds me of my hair on a humid day.) And a serene smiling face on Miss Kyla, too…what the magic of Christmas can bring! :) A very Merry Christmas to you and your family.

  4. I LOVE the glass owls (feeling owlish lately)! Where did you find them?
Hope you have a Merry Christmas!
