Project Craft Room Cleanup: Complete!

kyla

Kyla makes a good taskmistress. She just stands there looking cute so you’ll finish up faster and play with her.

Here’s the before shot in case you missed it. So you guys want to see the after shots?

craft room

I cleaned up the yarn stash bookshelf A LOT. Purged some stuff that wasn’t needed, labeled my boxes and binders and actually organized those glass jars. I need to figure out sewing pattern storage, right now they are all just lying on that third shelf from the bottom.

I also moved my other bookshelf out of the ManCave and pulled about 50 books that I’m going to list on Swaptree. I will be filling this back up in no time. I am running out of shelf space!

craft room

My new dressform! I need to adjust her to my measurements. I’m also going to put one of my bras on her and stuff it, her boobs are a bit… low. I guess medium-sized women all have low boobs as well? The small sized form had perky ones. What gives, Dritz?

You’re not done yet? Come play with me!

craft room

I hung some artwork that had been languishing in the corner, put a bed in for Kyla so she can hang out, and made a “current projects” basket (the pink basket on the right of the green cabinet). All the stuff in there I can grab and go when I’m ready to watch a movie and want something to do with my hands.

I took Kristin’s advice to heart and made judicious use of labeling. My proudest accomplishment was finally herding the fabric stash. I now have it sorted into knits and wovens, and I also have a complete and accurate log of all the fabric I own. I have a binder filled with the organization sheets from PatternReview. Each has a swatch, yardage, type of fabric, etc. This way when I get ready to make something, I don’t have to guess about what I have or unfold everything.

craft room closet

The closet is nice and sorted. Art supplies, shipping and packaging stuff, a box of ready-to-go gifts, a box of gift wrapping supplies, it’s all there and ready to go. Now I just need to find some time to craft something!

I fear that the low boob myth is a result of to many ill fitting bras with no support. I love your idea to stuff a bra on your form though! One day I will have room for one….

this is great! it has totally inspired me to clean my knitting room.

i keep a little binder with swatches and information for all my yarn! let me know if you’d like the form i use for that too :) it’s a big help when i’m feeling uninspired.

Oh my I’m jealous. I can’t even bring myself to take a picture of my craft room! I love the colors also! Maybe I should get my Yorkies to be the Taskmaster and get mine done.

  4. Maria says:

I envy your wonderful space. It’s wonderful. Way to go on tackling the man cave in the making.

  5. Can’t wait for you to help ole’ Mom with the new house. I here by assign the craft attic makeover to you. I am so overwhelmed and was thinking of hiring someone to help. How much do you charge? ;)

  6. Kristin says:

These boxes (of course, from IKEA) are genius for pattern storage:

The envelopes patterns originally come in fit in upright, which is great for flipping through them to see what you have (assuming you can get the tissue paper pieces back in them). They can also hold those envelopes that fit a sheet of 8.5″x11″ paper folded in half, if not.

And if these are Billy bookcases, the boxes should fit perfectly. And they’re $1.99! How can you go wrong? I should get some kind of kickback from IKEA. They can pay me in store credit.

i envy your craft room so much!! right now i have no craft room, which means, by extension, the entire house is my craft room. which is a bad strategy and makes for a very messy house. ha!

yours is adorable, though. so is kyla. :)

  8. bex says:

wow! I am inspired to really attack my clutter!

  9. Looks great. And Kyla seems happy too.

  10. Michelle says:

It must feel so good to go in that room now and see how nice and neat it is. I think I will forever think of “Silence of the Lambs” when I see a dress form now.

looking good :o ) My craft cabinet is needing a makeover… and some reorganization. It is plain unfinished wood… I think it was a kids wardrobe in its past life. I’d like to paint it and add some wallpaper to the inside. Hope you have a great Friday!
    xo,
